The talk will be given by Dr Richard Stillman, Head of English at Winchester College,
‘THE NOVEL AS PROTEST: CZECH NOVELISTS POST-1968’.
Dr Stillman looks at how Czech writers used the novel as a form of protest against Russian repression post-1968.
Taking specific reference to Kundera, Klíma and Škvorecký, he will be outlining the political and formal ways in which literature provided an outlet for the Czech opposition.
